The All-Elvis Evening Recipe

by Bob Blumer
Magazine Issue: Internet Only
Cook a meal fit for a King. Buy one of the cookbooks such as Are You Hungry Tonightfeaturing Elvis’s favorite recipes, and create your own Elvis feast (you may want to reduce the portion sizes). Play Elvis music and videos all night, and to be fully authentic, wheel the TV set up to the dining room table and leave it on during dinner. (I learned this bit of Elvis trivia on my tour to Graceland.) If this isn’t adventurous enough, have everyone dress up as Elvis, hire an Elvis impersonator, or rent a Karaoke machine and let your guests interpret their favorite Elvis classics.

note Those of you who scoff at the idea of Elvis cuisine may be surprised to discover that the King’s favorite foods included some healthy southern delicacies such as collard greens, baked sweet potatoes and black-eyed peas. Whether you choose to create a “thin Elvis” or a “fat Elvis” dinner, don’t resist the temptation to serve fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches as an appetizer, and Twinkies for dessert.
