Submitting Samples for Review

Submitting Samples

First, thanks for asking. We do take this part pretty seriously. It takes you guys a lot of time to make a bottle, we want to pay you the respect of a fair tasting.

Please submit samples as they’re released/imported/etc. If it’s a library wine, we will still rate it but please note that its a library so that we can also do likewise and also so we can fully understand why we are picking up certain flavors.  We don’t have a schedule and don’t taste specific wines/beverages at a certain time of year.   We do however store your wine in/at appropriate conditions prior to tasting.  You can use our rations for promotional purposes without asking for permission.  We’re happy to share a logo if you want to use in promotional materials or shelf tags.

Wine:

  • Two 750ml bottles (or the equivalent) of each wine. Yes, that means four half bottles, three 500ml bottles or one magnum. And yes, we still need that quantity even if they have screw caps. It’s a quantity factor, not quality.
  • Suggested retail price.
  • A real person’s contact info (not “info@”) so we can email review results.
  • Spirits:

  • Please submit one 750ml bottle (or the equivalent) of each spirit.
  • Suggested retail price.
  • A real person’s contact info (not “info@”) so we can email review results.
  • Beer:

  • Please submit one six-pack (or the equivalent) of each type of beer.
  • Suggested retail price.
  • A real person’s contact info (not “info@”) so we can email review results.
  • Water/Other Beverages:

  • Please submit one six-pack (or the equivalent of six 12 oz. bottles/cans) of each type of water/beverage.
  • Suggested retail price.
  • A real person’s contact info (not “info@”) so we can email review results.
  • Food:

    Please email us for instructions.

    Gadgets, etc:

    • Please submit one item along with a spec sheet or any other datasheet pertaining to the product (if you have one).
    • A real person’s contact info (not “info@”) so we can email review results.

If these criteria are not met, the products will not be tasted or tested. We will contact you to note this so that you can help get the criteria met.

All samples should be sent to:

Just so that you know how we do this,  we do a blind tasting led by a level 1/introductory Somm, using the same deductive tasting methods taught by the Court of Master Sommeliers.  Between 4 and 12 people taste your wine.  That group rotates.

Wine X is the home of X-Rated Wines….. we mean it…we rate with X’s’    Generally speaking our ratings roughly equate to:

    X:          84 – 86

    XX:       88 –  91

    XXX:     93+

We do 1/2 Xs occasionally, and that accounts for the gaps.   We won’t publish any wines that don’t get to at least an X because, well, we think that’s kinda a crummy thing to do after someone did the hard work of making a bottle of wine. Right?

PLEASE NOTE: If you are hand-delivering samples YOU MUST EMAIL US first. Thanks.
