The case for a Sexy Red Wine on Valentines Day

The case for a Sexy Red Wine on Valentines Day
By Igor Sill
February 10, 2019

“Wine is one of the most civilized and natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, offering greater enjoyment and appreciation than any other purely sensory thing.” Ernest Hemingway.

Well, I wish that Hemingway had slipped in the word “anticipation” in his famous quote. Indeed “anticipation” is a wonderful and very descriptive word especially when applied to the wine world.

From Cambridge Dictionary: a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen in the very near future. As with most pleasures, it’s not so much the experience itself as the anticipation that is enjoyable and satisfying.

Valentines Day is around the corner, and it’s absolutely the perfect night to bring out a bottle of red wine to enjoy with that special love of yours. There is no more romantic way to impress your lover than with the perfect sexy red wine for the anticipated joys of the evening’s occasion. So, which red wine to choose?

I believe that a great wine is classically romantic, not too forward yet, awakens your mood and imagination with a scent that provokes just the right amount of lustful sweetness, essentially, an agent of seduction. That aroma, itself an intoxicant, will simultaneously exude a tantalizing sense of the unknown, an erotic adventure. That amazing ability for wine to move us emotionally, excite us physically, leaving us breathless – that is a sexy red wine. A sexy wine is one that evokes images of a beautifully fitted black dress that seduces with alluring irresistible bouquets of fraises des bois enveloped with the aromatic sensuality that dominates all five senses. The brilliantly deep red color will be as hypnotizing as the eyes of your lover.

I’ve always wanted to explain that warm, flushed feeling I get when I’ve had a glass or two of an exquisite red wine laced with subtle texture and flavors that entice you into another sip.

A sexy red wine touches you, erupting fully, gratifies and lingers on while continuing to please you. It’s long flowing legs teases you before drifting memorably into the early morning. A sexy red wine is beyond memorable, it’s absolutely unforgettable.

Several recent studies have found that of all the alcoholic beverages you can consume, red wine is the one that actually improves and enhances one’s romantic inclinations and sexual experience.

Seems that the scientific studies behind this, according to researchers, is that red wine contains certain compounds that stimulate our erogenous zones. Apparently, red wine stimulates the receptors in our brain and brings on a mixture of emotions. Red wine increases arousal in both men and women by increasing blood flow to women’s erogenous area and increases testosterone in the blood for men. From a health prospective, it lowers the risk of diabetes, prevents obesity, memory loss, and helps curb depression while being beneficial for our hearts.

So, when it comes to red wine and sex, its best to share a glass or two and indulge yourselves with the synergistic effects of wine. It’s pretty easy to make the case for high elevation mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Pinot Noir as being the healthiest choice among those sexy red wines. Go ahead and anticipate a “joie de vivre!”

Igor Sill farms a mountain vineyard in Atlas Peak, Napa. He’s a passionate wine lover, winemaker, writer, Court of Master Sommeliers, attended UC Davis’ winemaking program, member of the Napa Valley Wine Technical Group, Judge for the International Wine Challenge, London; and holds his master’s from Oxford University. He’s a big fan of Valentines Days and mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
