Jonny Moseley Goes to Wine Country

GOES TO WINE COUNTRY

So this is what happened. I get a call from Cerci Wallace, Jonny Moseley’s publicist. She wants Jonny to be featured in Wine X. On the cover. He loves wine. Doesn’t know a thing about it. I say cool. We brainstorm and come up with a two-day, four-winery tour of Napa and Sonoma. Along the way we’ll educate him, get ‘im a little hands-on maybe and do a fun edipictorial for our readers. Simple.

Let’s back up a moment. If you don’t know who Jonny Moseley is then you’re definitely not into skiing. In 1998, Jonny won the Olympic Gold Medal for moguls in Nagano, Japan. It was an incredible moment for the United States, not to mention the Bay Area here in northern California. Jonny’s a local Marin boy. Between him and the new Star Wars movie, that’s all we’ve heard about this past year. (At least Jonny proved worthy of the attention!)

Anyway. I made some calls to our advertisers and set up visits to Dry Creek Vineyards and Gundlach Bundschu in Sonoma, and Mumm Cuvee Napa and St. Supery in Napa. The idea was to visit diverse areas and producers for a well-rounded educational tour. At Dry Creek Vineyards we’d experience crush (harvest), maybe do some hands-on stuff. At Gundlach Bundschu we’d explore the recreational values of Sonoma County. In Napa we’d check out sparkling wine production at Mumm Cuvee Napa. And then at St. Supery we’d experience the winery’s extensive educational visitor’s center.

The best laid plans of Moseley and men…
